April 24, 2008 Hello, everyone! I’ve finished my seventh book and mailed it to my agent today! I have that heady feeling that comes with the end of a big project, before revisions, contracts, editing, and all the “stuff” that comes with readying a manuscript for publication. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my writing buddies, Margaret Maron, Kathy Hogan Trochek (who writes these days as Mary Kay Andrews), Diane Chamberlain, Brenda Witchger (aka Brynn Bonner), Alexandra Sokoloff and Katy Munger. Earlier this month five of us (Katy and Alex couldn’t make it) held an informal retreat at Holden Beach, which some of you might remember as the inspiration for Snipe Hunt, at a beachfront house lent to us by Bren’s cousin Bill Witchger. This is the fifth time we’ve gotten together for a week to write, brainstorm, and encourage each other. It’s astounding how much work we all accomplish. Of course we do indulge in a couple of glasses of wine and word games in the evenings! We usually don’t turn on the TV, but one evening we did watch Wonder Boys, a comic film about writers starring Michael Douglas, Robert Downey Jr., Tobey McGuire, and Frances McDormand. I enjoyed it so much I bought my own copy when I got home and forced my family to watch it. Now that I’ve sent in my manuscript, I’ll be happy reading the stack of books by my bedside and enjoying spring here in North Carolina. Speaking of spring, our terrible drought is over! Falls Lake is full, and that means fresh, homegrown TOMATOES! I’m planting mine this weekend. Can’t wait. Of course in a couple of weeks I’ll get bored and restless and start thinking about my next book…. Just a book availability note---Shell Game is out in paperback—it’s a May selection of World Mystery Library. You can still find The Bug Funeral there, too. If you want autographed copies of any of my books, call my home bookstore, Quail Ridge Books here in Raleigh, at 800-672-6789 or email them through their website at Quail Ridge Books. Sarah
